My Roots

My name is Karen Hui Saechao, and I am a proud first-generation Mien-American woman, born and raised in Sacramento, CA. As a daughter of two Lao-Mien immigrants, I grew up constantly navigating the complexities of two cultures, trying to hold onto my culture while creating my identity in a world my parents knew nothing about. As a result, I had to pave my own path toward my educational and professional goals, not having a road map from my parents to follow.  I clearly remember when the time came to choose a college, I felt selfish for wanting to leave home to pursue my dreams, feeling as if I were leaving my family behind. My family also was struggling at the time, so I feared that everything would fall apart if I left. But I listened to my heart, took a lot of advice from close mentors, and decided to choose faith over fear. I truly believe that leaving was the best thing I could’ve done for myself. I became the first in my family to graduate from college, thanks to the countless mentors and champions who invested in me and supported me all those years. I am because of them.

My Commitment

After more than 10 years of mentoring and guiding youth, young adults, and professionals, I’ve decided to launch “Made For More Coaching,” a coaching business aimed at guiding first-generation young professionals to live and become their best version of themselves. My giftedness in empathy, listening, intentionality, and resourcefulness enable me to see your potential—and empower you to see it as a goal within reach. My coaching approach honors the unique challenges of being children of immigrants, as well as the resilience and perseverance that is woven into that identity. I will be your champion, accountability, and guide for your journey toward growth and expansion—however that looks. In essence, my heart is to guide you in the way I wish I’d been guided during my early years of adulting.

A Little More About Me

I currently live in Renton, WA, with my husband, Vincent, and our cat, Doge. During my free time, you might find me with my camera in hand, capturing the beauty and joy in everyday moments with FUIX photo, or venturing around Seattle to find my next favorite coffee spot. I love traveling with my husband to new and familiar places seeking our next foodie adventure. I also serve my Mien community as the Chair and Visionary for MCYA. On special occasions, I help co-lead a podcast named “A New Light,” where we share our experiences as a first-generation Asian American woman through heartfelt and humorous anecdotes.

Life Mantra

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
